After classes this morning, I met a couple of friends and we headed over to the opening of Nordstrom Rack here in Austin. Afterwards, we stopped at Whole Foods where they treated me to tea and cake (thank you, Patience and Sarah!). Shopping outfits are hard for me to choose, because it’s an opportunity to dress up a little more, but I find that if I’m wearing too many layers and accessories, trying things on becomes a real chore. Dresses are also out, because if I wanted to only try on a top, for instance, I would also have to find pants, and vice versa. The Rack was pretty picked over by the time we got there at 2:00pm, so I ended up only trying on a skirt, which was a tiny bit too small. Oh well, now I have money for my boot fund.
Although it looks like a dress, it’s actually a tunic layered over a pencil skirt. I like doing this with fitted tunics because it functions as a dress, but is as versatile as a top and a skirt. The photo on the left is my school outfit, and the one on the right is what I wore for shopping. It warmed up later in the day, so I just took off the jacket and traded my school bag for a handbag.
The tunic and pencil skirt are both from Express, the denim jacket is BCBG, the handbag is Michael Kors, the specs are Chanel, the ring is Kenneth Jay Lane and the shoes are Me Too.

Rotten luck about the Rack being picked over! I think that can happen sometimes, but hopefully once the novelty wears off you’ll find a better selection. And that’s great that you have saved money for your boot fund.
Your dress is so adorable!
Thanks Kari!
That polka-dot tunic is great; if there was ever a tunic that might convince me to try the tunic and leggings look, it would be this one.
I have trouble figuring out what to wear on shopping trips too. I try to determine if I want to dress shop or pants/top shop, and then I dress accordingly.
