When I first bought this cardigan, I thought the color was “citron.” But the more I think about it, the more I think it’s actually neon yellow. So I’ve accidentally participated in the neon trend. For this outfit, I paired the cardigan with a deep bluish-purple t-shirt. Since the cardigan is so bright, I’ve been having a hard time figuring out what to pair it with. Any suggestions? White works, although black is too harsh. The occasion was my friend’s birthday party and we went to see “Pirate Radio” in the evening after I got off work (it was a great movie, by the way, I highly recommend it).
I also got a haircut on Friday and am trying out a new style. My hair is naturally curly, and it’s been so humid here lately, I’ve decided to go with the natural texture and kind of let it do what it wants.
The cardigan and t-shirt are from Express, the jeans are Citizens of Humanity and the shoes are Me Too.

I just started reading your blog, but I think your haircut is adorable! No advice on the cardi, sorry….I’m reading your blog for style advice so I’m not the most stylish person! LOL
What about a charcoal grey?? Or navy
Thank you for the compliment on my hair, Shizzknits (cute name, too!), and welcome to my blog! Thanks for stopping by.
Kendra, I love those suggestions, thank you!
It looks citron to me.
I mean, I thought citron meant lemon yellow, which is kind of neon yellowish anyway…
Looks good paired together!

I want that cardigan.
I was thinking more of a dove gray. I’d wear it in a second! But I was an early adopter of neon
It looks sweet with the cobalt though. How about ink blue? It’s dark but might be a little less harsh than black.
Ana, I love the curls. (Part of this is that I’m a perpetually straight-haired girl who can’t generate a wave to save my life, but really, I think it’s cute and spunky looking on you.)
I am NOT a color mixing expert, but my thought is that mid-toned colors like the cobalt blue that you are wearing or charcoal or even chartreuse might make the cardigan look like less of an eye-hurting neon and more like a bright citron. My guess is that the reason that black is too harsh is because it makes the cardigan look much brighter by comparison. I’m a complete novice on color theory, so all this might be completely incorrect!
I am really new to your blog but love what you’re doing! As a fellow techie girl (web designer) it’s sometimes tough to wrap your mind around what to wear and it’s really helpful to check your blog for ideas. I agree with you – the color is pretty neon and I believe it’s a bit too harsh for you. You’re skin tone is really warm and that color is too saturated and cool toned-yellow for you. If you want to wear yellow, maybe try sunflower or pale yellow? If you want to wear neon colors, perhaps you could also try something more coral or purple when wearing near your face? If you absolutely love that color, I’d recommend wearing it away from your face, like a sexy pump with boyfriend jeans and a black boyfriend blazer with a graffiti/graphic t-shirt. And yes, that color looks really hot with dark grey. Hope this is helpful and keep up the great work!
