Because temperatures are finally starting to drop here in my neck of the woods, I recently went on a hunt for knit turtlenecks and long sleeved tees that could be worn both as a layering item and on their own. This required them to be made of a medium weight cotton with some structure so they wouldn’t cling, and also be slightly loose but not so loose they would be boxy and unflattering. On the recommendation of a friend, I decided to give the Lands’ End “modern fit” turtleneck a try. They arrived in the mail this week and I love them! I ordered two of the striped version–one in black stripe and one in ivory stripe. I’ve already worn the black one twice. It’s so soft and cozy, and the material is perfect for layering and to wear on its own.

The turtlenecks are also a great price. The solid version is retailing for $19.50, and the stripe is $24.50, but Lands’ End also runs promotions on their tees and turtlenecks. Right now, if you buy three you can save $2.50 off each one. Sizing is also something to consider. I usually wear a medium in almost every store, but I decided to try ordering a size down in these after consulting the YLF forum and the small fit me perfectly. If you are between sizes, or want these strictly for layering purposes, I’d also consider sizing down.

Lands’ End is not a retailer I usually shop with, but I’m quite happy with my purchases and I am planning on picking up a few more of these fabulous turtlenecks in solid colors. It goes to show, leave no retail stone unturned.
